Product Description

A PC without virus-protection software is like a body without an immune system. Norton AntiVirus 2002 takes the place of T cells and antibodies as it monitors new and old files for viruses using its constantly updated definition list. Perfect for beginners and intermediate users, it offers simple installation and nearly transparent use, requiring only a few bits of information to start and occasional requests for user action when viral activity is suspected.

The interface is intuitive, appeals to common sense, and doesn't assume its users have a thorough background in computer security issues. Like all antiviral software, Norton has some quirky, unpredictable interactions with other programs and operating systems, especially newer versions like Windows XP. These are generally caught and patched quickly, but have caused some users grief; this can be compounded by Norton's inconsistent customer service.

Still, the horror stories pale in comparison to the real risk of damage caused by increasingly sophisticated viruses, worms, and Trojan horses roaming the Internet. Norton AntiVirus 2002 will give most users the security they need with almost no hassle. --Rob Lightner

too many errors

The antivirus is not the best. It keeps telling me to subscribe for it when i already did, even twice. It does not update its virus definations, and some viruses have turned off or destroyed the email scanning. Don't buy it. it was good until all that happened. ( no offfence to norton intivirus Inc.)...

PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS (or anything else from these people)!

Zero stars!Updates are no longer available for this version of Norton Anti-Virus (2002).This includes virus definition updates. This software came preinstalled on the Dell pc I bought late in 2002.A month ago, I paid $20 to renew my subscription, and then found out that updates are no longer available for this version. The only way I can use my subscription is to buy a new version of the software. After reading reviews of the later versions, I don't want any Norton/Symantec product.Their online customer...

DONT BUY NORTON ANTI-VIRUS PRODUCTS UNTIL

they fix the numerous problems with their NAV suite; there are plenty of folks who have suffered after downloading unworkable virus definitions and you can not get in touch with Symantic to resolve problems. They take your subscription money ($29.00 US) and then leave their customers in the dust with non-working software. BOYCOTT SYMANTIC!!...

Norton Virus

Most viruses are loaded to your computer unwelcomed.I am ashamed to say that I paid for this one.Norton Anti-Virus seemed to work fine for my computer. It was scanning anything questionable and updated itself daily (although I haven't any real evidence of it having protected me from anything -it served as a safety blanket). Then, after less than a year, my subscription expired and I decided not to renew it.That's when "Norton Anti-Virus" became The Norton Virus. From fourteen days before my subscription...

XP and NAV are a bad match

I had NAV, don't know the version, when I had XP Pro, and it worked flawlessly. Had to reinstall XP, then tried to install NAV 2002. It would not install completely, no matter what. The Marketplace vendor Chri kindly sent me another NAV CD, but that didn't install either. The hangup seemed to be the Automatic Live Update -- things went well till it got to that point, then crashed. I tried Symantec's online help, but it was impossible (I think the same people must run MS online help, which should...
