Great card - works AOK for me, Steep learning curve.

I bought and installed this Hauppauge 250 card and the supplied software in my HP desktop over 2 years ago.I have a 3GHz Intel P4 and 1 GIG of RAM and use Windows XP Home w/SP1.I use it to watch/record TV and to transfer my home movies on S-VHS to mpeg files and then converted that to DVD.The 250 works beautifully. There is a learning curve but once you master it, it does the job.DVDs made from tapes actually look better than the tapes themselves.Somehow, the conversion to digital minimizes the color...

Hauppage tuner cards are the best!

The PVR-250 is an excellent tuner card! Check around and you'll seethe Hauppauge tuner cards are the standard and work well with all PVR software. Also check for the PVR-350 - if Amazon has it for the same price, by the PVR-350 instead since it has Tv-Out (S-video and Component) and does hardware mpeg2 decoding. This means you can connect it to your TV to watch your recorded shows rather than just viewing them on your PC monitor. The output is better than you can get using a video card that has Tv...

The Standard

This is the defacto standard PVR card.It works better on more platforms--Linux anybody?I run MythTV on Gentoo Linux and this card just plain works. As a Linux-only user, this review will be specific to that platform.Note that this is not a TV card in spite of the fact that it has a TV tuner. To Linux users that means that you're not going to get the standard TV apps working with the PVR-250--TvTime or xawtv. You'll need the latest IVTV driver, which does an excellent job with all of the PVR-250's capabilities...

Works as advertised, and supports PAL-N !!

This is a gorgeous card that works as advertised. It has a lot of pros and some little things to improve with just a little effort from Hauppauge. For Argentinian buyers, like me: it supports PAL-N !!! PVR-350 also does, but take care because there are other models like PVR-150, 250MCE, 350MCE and 500 that don't fully support PAL-N. Check with Hauppauge representative before buying: they gave me great support.1) Installation: it took just 10 minutes. After that I had everything running. Unfortunately...

Compared to ATI... WOW!

I gave up after having an ATI product for about 1 week, and seeing all the negative reviews for their product, abandoned ship and went for the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-250 (Model 980).Flawless install, flawless operation. The software is much better than ATI's MMC software, but I've had a TIVO for the last five years and the Hauppauge interface was clunky in comparison. So I checked out SnapStream's Beyond TV and am very impressed.Surpasses the elegance of TIVO.I had the DirectTV TIVO and have now cancelled...
