Product Description
If your business takes you on the road, you know how much of an impact traffic congestion can have on your schedule. The Garmin GTM-10 traffic receiver alleviates these concerns by helping you avoid traffic jams before they start. Compatible with the Garmin StreetPilot 2720, StreetPilot c340, StreetPilot 7200, StreetPilot 7500, and Nuvi GPS navigators (sold separately), the GTM-10 receives data from selected FM broadcast stations in select cities throughout the U.S. and Europe. Your Garmin navigator then converts the data into a color-coded map that shows you where the hot spots of traffic congestion are starting to form. Once the GPS analyzes this data, it automatically calculates and suggests alternative routes based on the traffic information.
Because the traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, drivers can still listen to music or news programming on their car radios without interference. The traffic broadcasts are usually continuous, depending on the service provider, so there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. With the GTM-10, you see traffic developments in real time as they happen, helping you make the right decision as soon as possible.
About the size of a matchbox, the GTM-10 attaches to the Garmin GPS navigator's mini USB port. Drivers also must connect the other end to the vehicle's FM radio and antenna. Garmin recommends professional installation of the devicefor best results.
Note:A nominal activation and subscription fee is required with this product. See the technical specifications for a list of cities where the GTM-10 service is available. Garmin includes a free 15-month trial subscription to the GTM-10 service with the purchase of this receiver. Traffic services are available only in select cities where RDS-TMC coverage exists.

I also can't install it on my German Car
I also purchased the GTM 10 for use with my nuvi and I have a German car (Audi). The installer tried to use an adapter but finally had to give up as he said that none of the adapters worked.Guess I'm stuck, but reading some of the other reviews, it appears that the real time traffic interface doesn't work that well anyway.I love the nuvi though....

Bad description on Amazon
I don't know how this device works, because I can't install it in my German car.Amazon fails to say you need a special connector for European cars, which costs $50.Amazon also fails to say you will need to spend $60 a year, after the first 15 months, to subscribe to a traffic radio service that will make this device work.If you travel a lot, you may need to spend $60 many times over to get the radio signals in different cities.Misleading advertising!...

As accurate as tomorrow's weather
While the rerouting feature usually works fairly well, the accuracy of where there is traffic is horrible. I have come across accidents that weren't on the system and driven through red and yellow zones where there was no slowing. This product is a good start at a great idea, but the up-to-the-minute traffic info is still a ways off, aparently....

Great Addition to a very solid GPS unit
This is almost required add on to a Garmin if it is Traffic Enabled. The unit fits between your antenna input on your radio, and the antenna. It is about the size of a matchbox. The instructions recommend a professional installation, but the installation is not difficult at all if you can get to the back of your Radio.I installed it in my 2005 Silverado and it basically required pulling off the trim ring around the intstrument panel and unbolting the radio to get behind it.Total install time was less...

A great item, if you are in the coverage area
This item is a lifesaver! Well, at least a timesaver. When connected to a compatible Garmin GPS (like the 2720), it will graphically alert you to traffic issues on your route and in your area.No more waiting to hear the traffic on the radio, it is realtime. If an accident is located on the road you are currently travelling, it will alert you with an icon that allows you to choose to remain on your current path, or detour. If the accident is located further ahead on your route, but not on the same road...
