Customer Reviews
Disappointing, especially in light of the rave reviews.
I listened to the Sony out of the box and then again after ~24 hours of break-in.Break-in improved it of course but did not change its fundamental character. The Sony's upper registers are bright but nevertheless sound washed out, and its voicing is overly sibilant: even 't's are crisp and 's'-ey.As for detail resolution, I heard nothing that my Sennheiser 650 with Cardas cabling did not already reveal.Quite the contrary: the 650 reveals more texture in human voices and reproduces piano with greater...

Good headphones!
First of all, the first review posted was posted after only seven hours of use. I too found the sound very harsh after only 7 hours, but after about 60 hours of burn in this became less of an issue, as the sound is now more relaxed. For those of you wondering what the difference is between the SA1000 headphones, as the pictures look the same, the 5000s are made out of leather and metal rather than fabric and plastic. Sony remaps the land of high-end headphones once again
I've owned quite a few high-end headphones over the last few years, but this new model from Sony take a page from Metallica, and kills 'em all.The comfort and design are unparalleled, and the materials used are top-notch, outclassing similarly priced and even more expensive cans. The sound is unprecedented, certainly among sub-$1000 dynamic headphones. The frequency spectrum is amazingly well balanced, from the deepest bass to the highest treble, with no readily apparent gaps or peaks. The frequencies...

A unique sound that is highly dependent on source equipment
Hi,I purchased these SA5000 headphones from an Amazon seller, but did not go through Amazon.I have used them for roughly 7 hours now. These clearly belong to a class of ultra-high end headphones (i.e. Sennheiser HD-650/Zu Mobius Cable, Sony R-10, Sony CD-3000, Qualia 010, Grado RS-1, SR-325i, PS-1, ).At these price points, we've gone way beyond the point of technical competency and are at the point of personal preference. These headphones are extremely bright, open, and dynamic. These are the antithesis...
