Iogear GUH275 4-Port Hi-Speed USB 2.0 MicroHub – Customer Reviews

Lasted maybe one year

I'm on Amazon tonight looking for a new hub since this one has given up the ghost. Other than the heat it produced itself, the hub faced no stresses from travel or frequent use--it just sat on my desk.It lasted maybe 15 months or so.

Shoddy workmanship + bad design = failing item

Like the other reviewers have mentioned, this hub has the following problems:

1.It gets hot.Not hot enough to burn your fingers, but still hot.
2.It has a very short cord. The hub ends up being upside down when attached to my laptop (vertical usb slot), and there is a lot of stress on the cable.
3.It starts to fail after a while.I used mine for about 6 months, and then it started to flake out.Today it actually died, so I unscrewed it and cracked it open. The wire connecting the usb cable to the circuit board wasn't soldered on very well, and it had come loose.I cut away all the glue and stripped the wires, but I couldn't get it to work again.Maybe if I had a soldering iron or was an electrical engineer I could have, but I don't and I'm not.
4.IOGear requires you to send in the hub to get their 3-year warranty.I'd rather just buy a new and better quality one than deal with it, since whatever they send me as a replacement will have the same problems.

In fact, I just finished a mini-Office Space smash-up and it's now in the garbage. At least it was cheap: note to self---never pay a lot of money for something made in China.

Hooray for shoddy workmanship and design!

P.S.You'd make crappy products too if you worked in a sweatshop for 2 cents an hour.

Doesn't Work

This didn't work at all for me. I needed one because my laptop docking station (for an IBM Thinkpad) only has 1 USB port, so to add both a keyboard and mouse, I needed an extra USB port. This seemed to fit the bill, but it just don't work... simple as that. The device is recognized as a USB hub in windows, but anything you plug into it is not recognized. This is unfortunate as Iogear usually make pretty decent products.

Hubbed Down

There are times where a add-on device works well with a computer, and there are those items that think they can work well, but ruin your computer, or your other items for it. This USB 2.0 hub from Iogear is not one of those. This device doesn't work very well on all devices that are USB 2.0 compliant. It didn't work on my MP3 player, my cable and broadband service, and especially didn't work on my printer, and that was damaged. If you are going to use a USB 2.0 hub, make sure it is 100% reliable when you buy it. Otherwise, something that is important for your computer may be damaged.

Can corrupt data

I would recommend against buying this device.Just got mine in the mail today, plugged my keyboard in through it, and found the keyboard unusable due to garbage data getting output to the terminal.Had a similar experience when running my mouse through it (random movement, click detection, etc).
