The Vortech plugs into a 12-volt cigarette lighter and uses its unique, wide-area reradiator to transmit an amplified signal to your receiver. Because the Vortech system doesn't require a direct connection to the GPS, it works with any model of receiver and is ideal for car, boat, or RV applications, when your receiver may have trouble getting a "good look" at the satellites. Alternately, users can connect the antenna directly to the GPS antenna jack and take the GPS onto the trail for remote use. In this application, the Vortech draws power from the GPS batteries, making it ideal for hiking applications where heavy tree cover and deep canyons cause built-in passive antennas to lose the signal.
