IBM DS4400 TotalStorage Midrange Disk System Customer Reviews
Doesn't come with a cable!
-
I'm sick and tired of spending over $32,000 (before shipping) for a piece of equipment for my laptop, only to find that immediately after UPS rolls the crates up to my front door, I have to jump in the car to go to the computer parts store and buy a $3.95 cable!
Other than that bit of frustration, this thing is ideal for me and my wife to scan recipes into for future use while cooking! I also like the array of blinking lights. They are cool. I kind of feel like I'm Spock at the console of the Starship Enterprise. I highly recommend it .. just make sure that you buy the cable before it arrives. Live long, and prosper.2/16/2006 12:00 AM | Rating:

A little expensive

Yeah that is my only gripe with this one.
At almost $30,000 I was expecting a mousepad to go with it but to my dismay I found out I had to shell another $2.60 to buy a matte-finish mousepad that will go well with its carbon-fibre casing. Well, you can't blame us average consumers if we sometimes expect to get our money's worth. Just imagine what I could buy with the $2.60 had they been considerate enough to ship it with one decent mousepad.
On a positive note, this little baby is a blast. It helped me a lot surfing the web for MP3s and typing my little brother's report on the migration of bird-flu viruses in Southeast Asia.
I rate this product only four stars out of a generous five.10/31/2005 12:00 AM | Rating:

Awesome for Research

My 14 year old son recently embarked on a gene sequencing project. His trials generated massive amounts of data, so much so that his laptop's 4.2gb hard drive became overwhelmed.
The product arrived flawlessly.Within an hour, my son's data was being transferred through multiple gigabit ethernet channels to the storage array.
So far, there has been only one attempted break-in to our apartment. My son insists on keeping his networking equipment and automatic sequencers near his 1st story window, which naturally has called attention. The first break in occurred while my son was momentarily in the kitchen. He heard shattering glass, and ran to his room. There, a masked man exclaimed, "Oh my God!Is that the new DS4400 FibreChannel RAID server!?"Before my son could reply, the intruder began opening HotSwap bays.Unfortunately, he failed to notice that we had ordered a 16TB model, and the top half of the rack remained empty. After the intruder realised his mistake, he jumped out the window from where he came.
All in all, however, this is a great server rack.My son hopes to enter the Westinghouse competition. My only other gripe is that this doesn't ship with a monitor: I think it's despicable that consumer PCs are advertised at low prices simply because they don't include monitors.10/13/2005 12:00 AM | Rating:
