Product Description
The Basics
- Hard Drive: Providing more than ample storage for all your multimedia and video editing needs, the installed 200 GB hard drive (7200 RPM) is one of the largest hard drive sizes available right out of the box.
- Processor: While the 2.2 GHz speed of this AMD XP 3200+ processor sounds small in comparison to Intel processor, it gets more done per clock tick and is actually comparable to a 3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4. It's suitable for the most demanding home computing needs for today--and tomorrow--and will ably handle high-end video editing and immersive 3D video gaming. It also features a 400 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and a 512 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)
- Memory: The 512 MB of installed RAM (PC2700) is adequate for running office productivity and audio software, but you'll want to take advantage of the roomy 2 GB of total RAM capacity (2 x 1 GB) for such multimedia needs as video editing and immersive 3D gaming.
- CD/DVD Drive: The SR1330NX features two optical drives: a 48x CD-ROM for reading CDs and a dual-layer, multi-format DVD writer with CD burning capabilities. Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the DVD burner is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer DVD+R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 16x DVD+R, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD+/-RW, 2.4x DVD+R DL, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CDR, 24x CDRW, and 40x CD-ROM ROM speeds.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This desktop PC comes with the Compaq Productivity keyboard and scroller mouse, both of which connect to the PS/2 ports on the back of the machine.
The SR1330NX features audio and video cards that are integrated into the computer's main board. The sound card uses the AC'97 (Audio Codec '97) standard (configurable to 6 channels of audio). The video/graphics card has up to 64 MB of shared video memory. It is suitable for good range of gaming graphics and multimedia video playback, but might not stack up for ultra-realistic 3-D PC games.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
For expansion, the SR1330NX has two 5.25-inch external bays (one available), one external 3.5-inch bay (one available) and one internal 3.5-inch bay (occupied), three PCI slots (two available), and one AGP slot (available). It comes with a built-in floppy drive and the following external connectors:
- 7 USB 2.0 ports (3 in front, 4 in rear) for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
- 1 parallel port for connecting older printers and scanners
- 1 serial port for older peripherals such as early PDAs
- 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
- 1 VGA monitor port
- 1 microphone, 1 headphone
- 1 line-out, and 1 line-in jack
- 9-in-1 media card reader on the front, compatible with CompactFlash (Type I and II), MicroDrive, SmartMedia, Memory Stick/Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital, and XD Picture Card
Preloaded System and Software
This system comes with the Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 operating system with Advanced Security Technologies, which helps to reduce unwanted downloads and pop-ups while surfing the Web. It also comes preloaded with Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents), Symantec Norton Antivirus 2005 (with 60 days of LiveUpdate), Norton Personal Firewall 2004 (60-day security update subscription), Encarta Encyclopedia 2005, Adobe Photoshop Album, Quicken New User Edition 2005, Microsoft Money 2005, RecordNow, WinDVD Player, WinDVD Creator 2.5, iTunes, PC Doctor, and SpySubtract.

Customer Reviews
Not too bad for the price...
I bought this computer (package deal at Best Buy) for my use at home. I am returning to school to finish my Bachelor's degree and it has everything I need.I agree that the graphics and sound card are slightly lacking, but I am not too much of a techno-wiz to worry about that stuff. I use it for my school work, reports, presentations, and listening to CDs.The computer is very quiet and pretty fast for what I have used it for. (...)I don't like the fact that Microsoft Office is not incuded. You have...

Nice value, good everyday computer.
I bought this Compaq two weeks ago after my computer's motherboard died.I would say it's probably the best value for its price right now, because it has a 200 gig hard drive and 512 meg memory. The Athlon and bus aren't the latest in technology, but it should be adequate for most applications. The DVD plays well, without any skips like my previous computer had.I'm amazed at how quiet the fan is.It's not perfect though. The onboard audio chip is surprisingly subpar compared to my previous motherboard...
