Product Description
Mechanical perfection. Leica is presenting an MP special edition in honour of the 35th birthday of the Leica Historical Society of America (LHSA). Its surface finishing evokes the style of 1960s machinery and tools: top plate and base plate are given a grey Hammertone finish. Leitz began to experiment with this unusual lacquer in the early 60s, producing a small number of special M cameras for internal use. Today they are known to be much sought after collectors items. The Hammertone finish is defined by its extreme robustness and its slight variation on each camera. In order to achieve the perfect, classic look, Leica applied the same leather cover material used on the 2000 0-series. Kit includes: Leica MP .72 35mm Rangefinder body in Hammertone, a matching Summicron-M 35 mm/f2 Asph. lens in satin chrome finish with Hammertone lens hood and lens cap, as well as a corresponding Leicavit M winder.

It is part of a limited edition of 1,000cameras for worldwide distribution only, with priority given of course to LHSA members. The camera has a grey hammertone finish, which is believed to be quite durable, perhaps more so than the black paint finish used in prior LHSA special edition Leica rangefinder cameras and in the current production Leica MP and M7 (the latter available only via Leica...
