Do not buy this printer!

I'm not exactly sure why the "Spotlight" reviews for this printer are so positive.Take my word for it - This printer sucks.I made the mistake of buying 5440 and the 5840 for my business.I can deal with all the paper jams just fine.But the one thing that makes these printers terrible is how alarmingly often you will have to buy printer cartridges for this machine.Make no mistake - this is a money pit.Don't fall for that nonsense about "saving money because you can buy each color individually."This...

Do Not Buy This

I have had a horrible time with the USB and LAN connections on this device.The software driver does not work properly.I had problems very quickly with this machine.My computer stopped recognizing the device.The ink runs out very fast.Envelopes did not feed into the printer well.You cannot really set the 2 trays for different paper sizes.If you have paper in the top tray- even if you have it set for envelopes- it will print your letter sized prints from the top tray onto your envelopes.The technical...

Great Machine. Get a long extended warranty. Learn to refill ink.

I bought this one after my old brother MFC-3840CN magenta printhead was clogged. I know the problems with brother printer so I still decided to buy this one because it is the best value you can get for all the functions included. But I got a 3-year extended warranty knowing the possible problems. I also bought bottled ink to start refilling the cartridges myself because I know brother forces you to buy ink when there is still plenty left. No problems yet, but...

it sure uses up ink fast! Fax, printing, scanning functions all work fine. Set up was fast and easy.Correction October 2006: I am sorry I purchased this machine. All we print is black and white documents, yet the color cartridges run out of ink before the black ink and we can't print anything until the color cartridges are replaced. You can't even turn the machine off when it has an alert! What great construction to screw the consumer! Stay away from this machine!...
