RVP (50ASA)135-36 Velvia 20pack - – Customer Reviews

The best color film ever made - and Fuji is killing it - oh, the humanity!

I used to use Kodachrome 64 (we all did, back then) and thought life was good (there was that song by Paul Simon, you know). But when Velvia came out and pros discovered that it was really an ISO 40 film, only the die hards stayed with Kodak. I shoot nature and cars - these subjects respond very well to the bright, supersaturated colors of Velvia 50. Forget using it on people, but it's great for everything else. I have 100 rolls in the freezer because Fuji has stopped making it (or is about to). The replacement film, Velvia 100, is out but I have not tested it so I can't comment. But if I don't like the new film, I will switch to digital - that new Canon D5 looks like a winner.

Update: I just came back from the Photo Show at the Javits Center in NYC and asked Fuji about the decision to get rid of Velvia 50.The simple answer was that they had to - issues such as environmental problems, cost, availability of materials all spelled the death of a great film. They offered me a few free rolls of the new 100 film (not the 100F which is awful). When I try it, I'll update the review.

Where has my Velvia Gone?

As a professional photographer, I've used more film emulsions than I can recall, but I've always returned to my favorite Fuji Velvia.Velvia provides rich and vibrant colors, barely noticeable grain, and tack sharp images.Unfortunatley, Fuji has discontinued its Velvia ISO 50 film, so perhaps digital is in my future.
