Product Description

With an archetypal metal shell and motorized curved swing lens and shutter, the Kompakt looks a lot like its original, hand-cranked, Austrian predecessors. And it is. A panoramic for purists, the camera is built around a sophisticated, multicoated Arsat 28/2.8 glass lens and powered by a classic clockwork motor (as in, no batteries required). Designed for normal people, it is bare-bones easy-to-operate with a sum total of 2 shutter settings—day and night, at 1/60 second and 1/2 second, respectively—from which to choose, and fixed f/8 aperture (which also happens to yield excellent depth and is the optimal diaphragm setting for crisp color and sharpness across the full 120° frame). Cocking the shutter charges the mechanics and the shutter release button sets the lens into motion; the film, stretched across a curved plane, is progressively exposed as the lens moves. For arty shooters, the Kompakt uses any type of 35mm film—B&W, infrared, ultraviolet—and has uncoupled advance and shutter functions, which allows for taking double-, triple-, and partial-frame-exposure photographs. 5.6Lx2.5Dx4.5H".

Customer Reviews

real panoramic shots

i have the horizon 202 and the shots are really quite impressive.as opposed to "panoramic" shots from other cameras that just cut off the tops and bottoms of the frame, this camera really pulls in 120 degree wide shots.wonderful for scenery and vistas.you need to find a place that can develop the film.it uses regular 35mm, but each shot is about a frame and a half wide.enlagements look great--the details are sharp.no stitching of images--real panoramic shots right out of the camera....
