why do these require battery

I did not like the fact that this microphone needs a hard to find battery which is not included in the box it was sold....

No Battery

Beware! There is no battery in the box. After you get the mic, you have to go shoping again before you can use it. The battery needed is a CR2025 if you want to pick one up while you are waiting for your mic to arrive. After I get my battery, I will let you know how it works....

No improvement on built-in mic

I purchased this along with the Olympus DS-330 digital voice recorder.The Sony microphone does not perform badly, just not any better than the built-in microphone on the Olympus....
